Cancer changes so much.
It changes routines, plans, priorities, and sometimes the way an entire family moves through everyday life. There are appointments, treatments, long drives, waiting rooms, difficult conversations, and so many unknowns.
And in the middle of all of that, sometimes the smallest comforts can mean the most.
That is why the Glen Adnam Cancer Comfort Basket Foundation exists.
This foundation was created in memory of my dad, Glen Adnam. Losing him to cancer changed my life forever, but through that loss came a desire to create something meaningful in his name—something that could bring comfort to another person walking through cancer and remind families that they are not alone.
Our comfort baskets are filled with simple, thoughtful items that can make treatment days and difficult moments a little easier. Depending on the basket, that may include a soft blanket, fuzzy socks, a journal and pen, word searches or colouring activities, card games, unscented lotion, lip balm, ginger candies, snacks, and other comfort items.
None of these things can take cancer away.
But they can say:
Someone is thinking about you.
Someone cares about what you are going through.
You are not facing this alone.
That is the heart behind every basket we pack.
Our goal has never been simply to hand someone a bag of items. We want each person receiving one to feel supported, encouraged, and remembered.
We are working to bring comfort baskets to individuals and families throughout Saskatchewan, including communities in southeast Saskatchewan, Weyburn, Estevan, Regina, and surrounding areas. As the foundation continues to grow, we hope to reach even more hospitals, oncology departments, treatment centres, cancer lodges, and communities across the province.
Every basket costs approximately $100 to create, which means every donation—large or small—can help us reach another person affected by cancer.
Businesses, organizations, families, and individuals have already helped make this possible through financial donations, donated products, sponsorships, partnerships, and simply sharing our story.
Every contribution becomes part of something much bigger.
A blanket becomes warmth during treatment.
A journal becomes a place to write when words are difficult to say out loud.
A game becomes a distraction during a long appointment.
A basket filled with small comforts becomes a reminder that an entire community is standing behind someone.
And for me personally, every basket carries a little piece of my dad’s memory forward.
I wish our family had never needed to understand what cancer can do to a person and the people who love them. But because we do understand, I want to use that experience to bring kindness into someone else’s hardest days.
This foundation is Glen’s legacy, but it is quickly becoming something shared by an incredible community of people who believe that compassion matters.
One basket at a time, we are bringing comfort, dignity, and encouragement to people affected by cancer.
And we are only getting started.
